Government Indonesia: better coordination intelligence agencies
necessary
On Monday 14/10/02 the Indonesian cabinet met to discuss the repercussions of
the recent bomb attacks in Bali and Manado. One of the main conclusions of the
meeting was that the various intelligence agencies should cooperate better. The
national intelligence agency, Badan Intelijen Negara, has not been able to
coordinate the work of the various agencies effectively.
Army Chief of Staff Ryamizard Ryacudu announced that the army will reactivate
its intelligence network in the country. That network was deactivated as the
internal security was the responsibility of the police. After the cabinet
meeting, the Coordinating minister of Political and Security Susilo Bambang
Yudhyono, stated that the intelligence agencies of the military will assist the
police.
